The electric cables implies the intrusion of man in the environment.
Environment
is A or even The major topic today for the industry as for general public. How
Cable's technologies are answering to the new environmental requirements?
Certainly the environment is a major consideration. As is clear from papers
presented at this conference, it does not matter if you are in Sweden or Sri
Lanka, cable installation has to be done in a manner which will not affect the
environment. This greater awareness and concern for the environment is certainly
going to increase the demand for underground cable by reducing visual pollution
but at the same time, require more innovative installation methods. The sharing
of infrastructure such as in tunnels and on bridges is becoming a more accepted
solution. New technologies for cable installation with directional boring and
similarly, new materials for providing safer cables that do not provide any
hazardous substances in the case of a fire or other disaster are meeting this
challenge. Efforts are also being made to design and re-design cables with recyclable,
rather than single use components. Up until now it has only been metals that
have been recycled, but in future polymeric components will also be recycled.
